Seema Dev completes 50 years of acting career

Seema , favorite actress's of marathi audiences recently completed 50 years of her film career.

Nalini Saraf , who danced in group dance of the film “Zanak zanak Payal Baaje” started working in films just to take the financial responsibility of her family. As she had lost her father she was ready to take up any job in films for shouldering the responsibility of her younger siblings and just to help her mother who was the only earning member of her family. The dance, which she learnt since her childhood, was very useful while playing the character in that film.

“Aliya Bhogasi” was her first film and Ramesh Dev was her co-artist. She played his sister’s role in the film. In 1965 she played his daughter’s role in the film “Padchhaaya”. There were other actresses with the name Nalini and hence she named her self as ‘Seema’ .

In the film “Gyanaba Tukaram” in 1958, Seema became Ramesh Dev’s heroine for the first time. After that she acted in many films with him such as “Yanda Kartavya Aahe”, “Maazee Aai”, “Suvasinee”, “Soniyachi Paule”, “Molkareen”.

 “Jagachya Patheevar” was the first important film which proved Seema as an actress and shaped up  her film career. The character of blind heroine which she played was praised by the audience in this film of 1960. Her identity as capable actress was proved. We love to hear the song “Tula pahte re tula pahte, Jari Andhalee” shoot on Seema in “Jagachya Pathiwar”  even today.

The lead role played by Seema in “Suwasinee”, “Ha Mazaa Marg Ekala”, “Pahoo Re kiti Waat”, “Aparadh” and  “Ya Sukhanno Ya” were very famous. She was honoured ‘Best Actress Award’ by Government Of Maharashtra in 1963 for her role in “Pahoo Re Kiti Waat”. Though she has a innocent face, she played negative character effectively in the film “Aparadh” and in “Molkareen” she was in the role of a daughter in law who used to torture her mother in law.

After her love marriage with Ramesh Dev, Seema got  herself engrossed in family life,while playing role of the ‘mother’ in actual life. As her children were old enough she started accepting character roles in movies. She played the role of mother of Ajinkya Dev in their home production film ‘Sarja’. Amongst both of her sons, Ajinkya, the younger one is a well known actor and Abhinay is famous as producer of ad-films.
As a character artist Seema got opportunity to work with many famous actors and actresses. “Anchal”, “Anand”, “Prempatra”, “Miyanbibi Raji”, “Taqdeer”, “Hathkadee”, “Mard” are some of Seema’s successful hindi movies.

Inspite of giving best performance in “Roop Ki Ranee,Choron Ka Raja”, Seema’s role was cut in editing to give preference or importance to the main hero and heroine. This made her upset and she stopped working in hindi movies. But all movie lovers must be waiting for her to be seen on Marathi Screen.
Her hobbies are Painting & Writing.
