Chitrapati V. Shantaram Puraskar  

Shantaram Entertainment launched Chitrapati V.Shantaram Puraskar beginning this year to commemorate 75 years of Marathi Films. Dr. V. Shantaram's “Ayodhyecha Raja” in 1932 was the first Marathi talkie film. Committed to legacy left behind by late film maker & with the view to inculcate his values among the posterity, the awards are founded by Chaitanya Shantaram, grandson of the late great film maker.

V.Shantaram played an active role during the seven decades between 1920 to 1990, producing 92 films under the banner of Prabhat, and Rajkamal. He acted in 25 films & directed 55 films. He has great contribution to the Marathi film industry as well as the entire Indian film industry.

Shantaram Entertainment has been established to encourage new talents in the field of cinema & to discover and develop their creative potential. Apart from producing films in Hindi & Marathi, Shantaram Entertainment will make every effort to remain at the forefront of each sphere of the film production business.

Chitrapati V.Shantaram Puraskar, Marathi film awards 2006 will have three nominations in each category. In all there are about 25 awards including Special Jury Award for a film. Best highlight of this award is Lifetime Achievement Award & Award for Significant Debut Production Award for Significant Role by a Hindi Artist in Marathi Cinema. The other highlight is a cash award of Rs. 50,000/- for some winners.

Kiran Shantaram, Madhur Bhandarkar, Vinay Newalkar, Dr. Vijaya Mehta comprise members of the advisory board. The function is to be held on 19 march.
