Natalia
Natalia’s lifelong passion for Kathak, a classical dance from North India, started at the tender age of five years. Her training began with Professor Mekhala Natavar and later with Professor Purnima Shah. She continued to perform and train in the U.S. at the Anila Sinha Foundation based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, with Smt. Sandhya Desai. Within the past four years Natalia has been continuously visiting India to receive intensive tutelage from Kathak maestros Padmavibhushan Birju Maharaj and Padmashri Kumudini Lakhia.
Natalia now performs as a soloist and in choreographies in cultural centers of both India and the U.S. She has recently been awarded a prestigious fellowship from the American Institute of Indian Studies as a Performing Artist in 2007-8. Her list of performance credits include the 2004 International Kathak Festival, 2006 Dance India Choreographing Traditions festival, the 2004 Dance Chicago Series, all in Chicago, Illinois, USA. She has also performed at various venues in India such as the 2006 Kalashram Dance Festival and the Lokchandha Dance Troupe both based in Delhi, as part of the Kadamb Academy based in Ahmedabad, and solo performances in Jaipur and Kolkata.
Natalia is currently finishing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.
